Last year, Manchester’s newest rap prospect Nemzzz had a run of hits that was beyond formidable. He dropped five faultless solo singles—which included “ABC”, the Jersey-Drill hybrid that had everyone talking—and in between those he also made two very well-aimed collabs, one with TikTok wunderkind KidWild and the other with Knucks. He really didn’t put a foot wrong all year and it looks like that run is still going as he drops off his latest single, “W2L”.
The new drop continues Nemzzz’s running theme of stepping outside of rap and drill conventions, opting for another left-field instrumental, this time from producer SAIONTHEBEAT. It’s a lot more minimal than some of the beats he’s jumped on in the past, and it’s got an almost ghostly vibe to it on the looped vocal snippet, but his flow’s no less punchy and he packs in plenty of braggadocious quotables to stick in your ear for the foreseeable future.
Naturally, for a young rhymer on the way up, Nemzzz has gone all out on the visuals, jetting out to Los Angeles to enjoy the palm trees and clear blue skies. Still, for all the trappings and glamour of California, he hasn’t gone fully Hollywood yet. His bone-dry wit and laid-back Mancunian accent are worn as proudly as ever.
