When Afroswing alchemist JAE5 teamed up with Skepta and Rema on “Dimension” last year, it looked like the start of a new era for the producer as the headline artist.
Sadly, we had to wait a little longer than we’d hoped, but he’s now back in full swing with Dave and BNXN for “Propeller”. The song was originally leaked a couple of weeks ago and since then Twitter’s been on tenterhooks waiting for the full drop.
Deep, lilting grooves form the backbone of JAE5’s instrumental, but there are some orchestral flourishes on this one, giving it more of an atmospheric edge than the usual club-ready bumpers. BNXN matches that on the hook, adding slick, fluid melodies to stir the emotions that bit more. Dave, meanwhile, contrasts it with some of his tougher, get money bars about life on the block.
Filmed out on location in Nigeria, the video follows the three collaborators round Gbagada as they take in the scenery, meet the locals, and soak up the baking summer heat.
