Ranking the Funniest Rappers on Social Media Right Now

Rappers don’t get enough credit for being genuinely hilarious—whether they mean to be or not. Some of the funniest rappers in the game right now are the ones who ignore the status quo, unafraid of what other people think of them. That’s the true essence of hip-hop, anyway: being yourself without any concessions.

Being able to engage with an audience through funny Instagram Lives, memes, and tweets not only shows artists’ sense of humor, it also brings them closer to their fans. Of course, there are lots of different ways to be funny. Some rappers, like Jack Harlow, Lil Nas X, and Tyler, the Creator, are funny on purpose, while others, like Future, are more aloof, sometimes being hilarious without even meaning to be.

There’s a wide spectrum of comedians in the hip-hop universe, so we ranked the funniest rappers on the internet right now, based on their various social media accounts and public antics, analyzing their intentional, accidental, or natural comedic approach (and why it works so well for them). These are the 15 funniest rappers on social media right now.

14. Drake

Drake’s social media posts are more tactical than anything, with captions that sound like they’re meant for his poetry book or upcoming album rather than to describe the series of photos. Since he is so rich and successful, though, Drake has an air of dorkiness that he lets breathe from time to time, because his public image can’t be affected by it. This comes to light when he turns himself into a meme or acts goofy for an Instagram video. He’s still an actor at heart, so he knows how to play for the camera. There was the time Drake trolled a fan by DMing his wife because the guy left a slick comment about Adonis. Or the time he jumped on IG Live with Druski and pretended to be at a bar by himself. His vacations often yield the funniest content, like his recent excursion through Europe and Ibiza where got swarmed by literal bees, vibed to some techno house music, and was clearly enjoying how people were dancing to Joe Budden’s “Pump It Up.” Even his trip to Turks and Caicos with Jack Harlow delivered memes

13. Jack Harlow

Let the record show that Jack Harlow was a little funnier online before he became super famous. The way he would post on his Instagram Stories with reckless abandon made him likable and hilarious because he never took himself too seriously. From joking about being cat-called by men in Atlanta to flirting with Doja Cat on Instagram Live, there was something playfully genuine about everything he did. There was even one meta moment where he actually shouted out a compilation YouTube channel that put together all of his funny moments into one video. Now, Harlow is kind of like that class clown who suddenly became friends with the cool kids, and he has a lot more to lose with any risky jokes, so he has to tone down his wild humor a bit. It’s been an unfortunate development, but he’s still effortlessly hilarious and has occasional laugh-out-loud moments on his social accounts. Plus, at least we still have his antics with Druski and those Instagram Story Q&A screenshots to fondly look back on.

12. Rico Nasty

The funniest people are usually the ones who are completely comfortable just being themselves, and Rico Nasty is a master at being genuine. Her normal personality just happens to be extremely funny and entertaining. She shuns the status quo and the respectability politics attached to the music industry, and that lends itself to her being super funny because she doesn’t care who thinks she’s weird. Her Instagram Live is a movie on any given day, and that’s equal parts because of Rico’s humor and how chaotic she is. She hilariously live streamed herself learning how to drive on one occasion, and was joined by Hip Hop Harry on another. But honestly, the funniest things are often the most chaotic anyway.

11. Snoop Dogg

There will always be a place in the rap-comedian hall of fame for Uncle Snoop. As his nickname suggests, Snoop is that cool older relative who still has the street smarts and bare minimum tech-savviness to maneuver through today’s social media, and he has over 54,000 posts on Instagram to prove it. Not only has he inadvertently created a plethora of perfect memes thanks to his genuine reactions to things (like nature and boxing skills), but he’s also at a point in his life and career where he’s just doing random hilarious side quests because he can, like hosting a high cooking show with Martha Stewart. His funniest social media moments usually revolves around his Lakers, whom he’ll often take to Instagram Live to rant about when they’re playing poorly, or praise them when they finally get their shit together, like an uncle would.

9. Freddie Gibbs

Before his OG Instagram account got banned (long live @freddiegibbs), Freddie Gibbs would unleash random barrages of memes and chaotic videos on his Story every day, and often went back and forth with people like Tyler, the Creator, Jay Versace, and more on IG Live. What makes Freddie Gibbs so funny is that he’s able to laugh at himself, oftentimes responding to people who have something slick to say about him and returning it tenfold. He could actually be a professional comedian if he really wanted to. While most of Gibbs’ funny moments and memes can be found on Twitter, where he’s able to have less of a filter, he has also tried his hand at real stand-up comedy and has fared much better than other rappers who have attempted it in the last year.

8. Bobby Shmurda

Ever since Bobby came home, he has been living life to the fullest and making sure we all laugh and enjoy it with him. Bobby doesn’t care about what he posts on his socials, especially Instagram, and that’s what makes them so funny. Brooklyn rap is always so serious, and rappers often try to keep up a tough-guy facade so they don’t come off as soft, but Shmurda throws those street politics out the window and decides to act wild, dance bizarrely, and scream whenever he gets the chance. Any time you take a trip to his IG page, you’re likely to find Bobby lip syncing along to Mariah Carey’s “Touch My Body,” lit at a Rangers playoff game, or learning how to country line dance.

6. Tyler, the Creator

One of the things that makes Tyler, the Creator special as an artist and human is the fact that some aspects of him have never changed. He’s matured as a person and musician over the years, but he’s still the same hilarious, ultra-confident guy that we saw eat a cockroach at the beginning of his music video for “Yonkers.” Sure, he’s chilled out considerably since his Odd Future days and isn’t on social media as much as he once was, but you can still catch him wreaking havoc on Instagram Lives or hilariously playing around with his friends like ASAP Rocky. Now, he picks his spots, posting about vibrators he sees in CVS on his alt IG account @scumfuckflowerboy, or hopping on IG Live to flex about his glowing skin.

5. Cardi B

Cardi B has a very unique connection with her fans, and they’re all able to laugh together. Despite becoming a world-class superstar and mother of two, Cardi still finds time to hop on Instagram Live and do something meme-worthy that will live on the timeline for months to come. Most of her funniest moments come from these Live sessions where she engages with her fans and jokes around with them. Over the years, many viral memes have come from these Lives, like when she dressed as a literal human keychain during one of her vacations. Her time on Love and Hip Hop Season 6 and 7, before she became a massive star, also helped create some of those iconic memes. Cardi is a born entertainer who knows how to keep people engaged and let her big personality manifest itself in comedic ways. Her time in reality television might have something to do with her perfect comedic timing, plus she’s from the Bronx and there’s just something about New Yorkers’ unfiltered nature that makes them that much funnier.

4. 50 Cent

Twitter: @50cent

In the same way that artists like Tyler, the Creator, Bobby Shmurda, and Cardi B reflect the chaotic good of the funny rapper world, 50 Cent is pure chaotic evil. Fif is the definition of having no chill whatsoever, and the thing about his sense of humor is that anyone can catch his jokes, including his enemies, old rap peers, and even his own children. 50 just doesn’t care, and because of that, he’s gone too far on several occasions, disrespecting people who’ve passed away or using unfortunate events to promote his show Power or his brand of Cognac. That being said, 50 Cent has had some of the most hilarious beefs of all time. His feud with Floyd Mayweather, which culminated in him challenging the legendary boxer to read “one full page of a Harry Potter book,” might be one of the funniest things I’ve ever witnessed happen in real-time on the internet. I guess it’s easy to be this petty and chaotic when you’re one of the greatest rappers of all time.

3. Doja Cat

Twitter: @DojaCat

Some of the funniest artists are the ones who rose to prominence through memes, charisma, and talent, and Doja Cat has all of that and then some. Her viral song “MOOO!” was a perfect way for the world to be introduced to her completely unserious personality. Doja is herself no matter where she goes, whether that’s an award show red carpet, concert, or casual Instagram Live. Her Twitter is a stream of consciousness that consists of things like tweeting “Mike Penis” for weeks in a row, telling DiGiorno pizza bites to fuck off for simply existing, and more. Even her current Twitter header, as of the writing of this piece, is a realistic version of the mouse Remi from the Disney movie Ratatouille, which is equal parts hilarious and horrifying. She’s an extremely talented artist, but also still that same person who dressed up in a cow costume in front of a green screen for jokes and ended up kick-starting her massive career from it. Sometimes it really does pay to be your completely weird and authentic self, because life is short and things are never that serious.

2. Lil Nas X

Twitter: @LilNasX

Lil Nas X is really good at using the internet, and a big reason for that is because he knows exactly when and how to let jokes fly. He’s a full-fledged meme master whose understanding of pop culture trends and moments is borderline meta, and he’s literally made graphics for his own trends before fans or blogs could. He has natural comedic instincts and an ability to make light of even the darkest situations. This was most evident in the jokes he was still able to make following the homophobic outrage that came with the release of his track “Montero.” Instead of lashing out at the people who wanted the song and video taken down, Nas X leaned into memes and was able to make light out of a very hateful situation. He even turned his recent feud with BET into a funny moment (and subsequent diss track) that caused mayhem on the timeline. Lil Nas X is able to out-troll the haters, out-meme the teenagers, and curate a social media presence that’s comedic and authentic. No wonder his old Twitter bio used to say: “lil nas x hate account.”

1. Rick Ross

Rick Ross is the funniest rapper alive, hands down. He’s always had a larger-than-life personality, so when you add all of the hijinks and adventures that come with being the biggest boss, you end up with a body of (occasionally accidental) comedic genius that you’ll find on Ross’ Instagram Stories. He operates his Instagram page like that of a cousin who sends you inspirational quotes every morning and then proceeds to post them on their feed throughout the day. (In other words, he likes to share everything about his daily life.) That means you’ll catch a hilarious adventure, a powerful quote, or a Luc Belair Blue ad from any of his 30+ Instagram Stories on any given day. Ross isn’t just funny because of the things he does (like chopping down trees in his backyard because it’s more affordable than hiring landscapers to do it), but the way he does them. There’s a carefree nature that comes with being the biggest boss, and that energy is reflected in even the most regular tasks. One day, Ross decided to pick up boxing and filmed himself in the gym, working on his form. I implore you to go watch why he believes boxers make noises when they release their punches. Whether it’s his sheer excitement from the arrival of a new farm animal that will live on his massive estate or simple enjoyment of some Jamaican music in his living room, Rick Ross is always hilarious.
