A La Roux/Kanye West beef definitely wouldn't be the strangest thing to happen in 2020. While talking to Phil Taggart's Slackerpodcast, La Roux singer Elly Jackson recalled a time when she and Kanye were working in the same studio, leading to an encounter Johnson described as "strange."
"He's one of those people who's not 100 percent normal," Jackson explained, per Yahoo. "You can't talk about anything normal. You can't just have a normal conversation. ... He's on show 24 hours a day, it's just him. It's kind of amazing to be around. I'll never be around anything like that again. It was really strange... He wants people to walk away saying, 'That was really weird.'"
Jackson told a mutual friend she thought the encounter with Yeezy was "pretty weird," and that person allegedly snitched to Kanye about what was said. This is when things got "creepy," according to Jackson. Once Kanye heard about her comments, he allegedly demanded she write him an email apologizing for her comments.
"It was quite creepy. I remember writing it. I was sat there on my sofa lol-ing to myself like, 'Dear Kanye...' They told on me. It was ridiculous," Jackson said. "I just wrote it all with a massive grin on my face—although they do actually have quite a lot of power... I was like, 'I think I am going to genuinely apologize. It's no skin off my nose to write this email.'"
La Roux and West have worked together in the past on Kanye's "All of the Lights" and on the remix of the group's song "In for the Kill." Despite their creative chemistry, this isn't the first time Jackson has critiqued West's character. During an interview with the Sunday Times in 2014, Jackson went on record claiming that "nobody likes him." And although she did apologize to Yeezy for what she said in the studio, Johnson stood by her comments.
"I didn’t say anything bad about him," she continued to Slacker. "I just saw some behavior—and it wasn't directed at me—that I found upsetting and unsettling."
