One of the most notable voices in the UK’s melodic trap scene, M Huncho has finally graced us with his debut album, Chasing Euphoria.
The North-West London native delivers his familiar entrancing melodies while adding some new twists on this project, citing classic albums such as Future’s Dirty Sprite 2, Ye’s My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, and Gunna’s Drip Season 3 as inspiration for its sonic landscape. M Huncho set out with the intention for “people to say I’ve never heard this type of music come from the UK,” and he seems to have done just that with his debut.
Highlights include the collab with Nigerian hook master BNXN (fka Buju) on “Pray To The East”. The JAE5-produced track shows Huncho’s willingness to take risks with his sound and venture into new territories—and it’s a risk that has paid off. The masked musician flows effortlessly on “Gone” and “Adam From Willesden Green”, both produced by Honeywoodsix with hints of Latin influence, while “38”—produced by Quincy Tellem—is an understated bop.
M Huncho also drafted in features from the likes of Ghetts, Headie One, D-Block Europe and more, each of them adding something wholly unique to the set.
Chasing Euphoria concludes with an introspective reflection dedicated to Huncho’s unborn children, as he looks back at how he’s made it “from the mud”. The powerful choral vocals blend smoothly with the artist’s vocals, producing a sound that resembles the euphoria he’s chasing after.
