Joji started 2020 with more career milestones.

Back in March, he made his television debut on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon to perform his song “Run” that was met with a standing ovation by the audience.

He was also set to perform on Saturday at Coachella before the festival got pushed to October. Joining him were Rich Brian and NIKI who were slated to perform on Friday. All of 88rising’s artists were expected to participate in the label’s Double Happiness activation.

While that moment has been put on pause, Joji is back to teasing new music off his forthcoming album Nectar. He shared video clips on Instagram, though he was secretive about what they meant before sharing the release in full.

For the song “Gimme More,” he splits it into two parts. The first half, produced by Joji himself, is a sticky pop anthem with haunting vocals that would surely turn up any quarantine party. When the song switches, Bekon & The Donuts production takes it to a more somber tone, sort of like a cooldown with an orchestral finish.

In the music video, directed by Joji and Andrew Donoho, he plays a scientist who finds a way to leave Earth for good, serving as a metaphor for an artist’s need to escape from reality.

“Gimme Love” is a proper introduction to Joji’s sophomore album set to release on July 10. Nectar follows BALLADS 1, an album that landed on No. 3 on the Billboard 200 chart, and helped Joji make history by becoming the first Asian-born artist to top the Billboard R&B/Hip-Hop album chart.
