J. Cole’s latest song “MIDDLE CHILD” has climbed to the No. 4 spot on the Billboard Hot 100.
The T-Minus produced single, which Cole dropped on Jan. 23, debuted at No. 26 last week. With its move up the chart, “MIDDLE CHILD” has become the rapper’s new career-best placement on the Hot 100.
The single generated a lot of buzz following its release, with lively discussions on Cole's shoutouts to LeBron James, Kodak Black, 21 Savage, and Drake, whom Cole referred to as a “legend.” But a number of fans also thought Cole was taking shots at Kanye by referencing his ongoing beef with Drizzy, while others were convinced that Cole was trying to suggest Ye’s recent antics were merely publicity stunts, intended to promote his music projects and Yeezy sneakers.
Ye and Cole certainly have an interesting relationship, with Charlamagne tha God claiming last year that Ye believed Cole was repeatedly dissing him on records. But a couple weeks later, Ye shared a screenshot of a phone call with Cole, captioning it, “we got love.”
Since the song’s release, it was announced that Cole would headline the 2019 NBA All-Star Game halftime show on Feb. 17, in Charlotte, North Carolina, a mere stone’s throw (or a three-hour drive) from his hometown of Fayetteville.
