BeatKing's Daughter Honors Late Father With Playful Eulogy: 'Nobody Can Be More Upset Than Whataburger'

In the spirit of her father's goofiness, BeatKing's daughter Jayla had the crowd laughing as she remembered the late Houston icon.

Family, friends, and fans gathered to bid farewell to Houston legend BeatKing in a ceremony that honored the late rapper’s final wishes.

During the funeral celebration on Thursday in Houston, BeatKing’s eldest daughter, Jayla, paid tribute to her father with humor, reflecting his playful spirit.

"When I talk about my dad, a lot of people expect me to start crying, but he was way too goofy, too annoying to just cry over," she said, with her sister Kayla by her side. "He would not want to to cry over him. So, I always make sure I keep a smile on my face at all times because I know that's what he would want me to do."

Jayla’s remarks kept the crowd laughing as she continued to remember her father.

"I know all of us here are very devastated with his passing. But I just know personally nobody could be more upset than Whataburger," she joked. "Without him, Whataburger will be going bankrupt, probably. The cheeseburger-eating, chocolate shake-drinking person has unfortunately passed and is in a better place now. And he's with all of us spiritually."

The celebration seemed to align perfectly with the rapper’s wishes. Before his death, BeatKing, born Justin Riley, tweeted in 2011 that he wanted his funeral to be at a club. "I don’t want anybody sad," he wrote. "Just loud music, drinks, and females dancing!" Bun B and other Houston artists were also present to honor Riley.

Jayla and Kayla, whom their father affectionately called Thing 1 and Thing 2 on social media, also received a proclamation from the city officially naming August 29 as BeatKing Day in Houston. The rapper was also celebrated with a new mural in his hometown.

The 39-year-old died earlier this month after suffering a pulmonary embolism. He leaves behind his two daughters and his girlfriend, Talameshia, who recently penned a moving tribute to BeatKing.
