Exactly two years after the release of his Lil Boat mixtape, Quality Controlās Lil Yachty has come through with its long-awaited sequel.Ā Ā
The second installment serves as the rapperās sophomore album and marks his first full-length drop since 2017ās Teenage Emotions. As most fans know, the debut LP received an underwhelming response and had only moved about 46,000 units in its first week. Yachty addressed the disappointing numbers in a lengthy letter to his fans last summer:
āI understand first week numbers didn't do what most people expected but that's only because they don't understand me. They don't understand us. I don't expect anybody to. I make it for those who listen,ā he wrote in part. āI feel like my brand is so big and blew up so big, it blew up bigger than my actual music. Which isn't the worst situation it could be worse all I have to is make it to where my brand hype and music hype equal out. I am back in the studio.ā
Yachty later told fans that Lil Boat 2 would go in a completely different direction than his debut album.
āItās the complete opposite of Teenage Emotions,ā he said during an interview on Power 106ās The Cruz Show. āThis is, like, turn-up [music]. Strip club slash mosh pit, festival, young, youth, push-each-other shit.ā
Lil Boat 2 is made up of 17 tracks and includes guest appearances by Quavo (āTalk to Me Niceā), Trippie Redd (ā66ā), Tee Grizzley (āGet Money Brosā), 2 Chainz (āOopsā), YoungBoy Never Broke Again (āNBA Youngboatā), and many more.
