Smokepurpp Fans Chant 'F*ck J. Cole' During Concert

Many suspect Smokepurpp is the target of J. Cole's “1985 (Intro To ‘The Fall Off’)."

Smokepurpp fans aren’t too happy with J. Cole.

During Smokepurpp’s concert at Atlanta’s Buckhead Theatre on Friday, the crowd broke out into a chant directed at the Dreamville MC: “Fuck J. Cole” they shouted, as heard in published footage.

Though Smokepurpp has taken a few public digs at Cole in the past, it seems the supposed beef was reignited this week after the release of Cole’sKOD album. The project’s closing track, “1985 (Intro To ‘The Fall Off’),” is believed to include a number of disses directed at Smokepurpp and Lil Pump; the latter of whom delivered a 2017 track called “Fuck J. Cole.”

Smokepurpp addressed the drama, as well as the beef between old-school and new-school, during an interview with Montreality earlier this year:

The OGs that are around right now don’t sound like the OGs that were around before them. We don’t sound like our OGs and when we’re the OGs, the younger people are not going to sound like us. Music is art, there’s no specific way to make art, you could do what you want, you could grab a mic and fart on that shit and go viral. If we want to mumble rap, we can mumble rap. Nowadays everything is kind of a troll, so people know [our ‘fuck J. Cole’ tweets are] trolling, but if you don’t, we don’t care, Pump doesn’t care.

Though Cole doesn't drop any names in “1985,” he does reference one of his “lil” foes: “I heard one of em’ diss me, I’m surprised I ain’t trippin’, listen good to my reply/Come here lil’ man, let me talk with ya/See if I can paint for you the larger picture.”

The lines could easily apply to Smokepurpp, Pump or both; however, there's another diss that is specifically directed at a black rapper, which suggests Smokepurpp is the target, as Pump is of Latino descent: “I must say, by your songs I’m unimpressed/But I love to see a Black man get paid/And plus, you having fun and I respect that [...] These white kids love that you don’t give a fuck/Cause that’s exactly what’s expected when your skin black.”

Shortly after Cole dropped KOD, Pump responded to the album's alleged disses in a video posted to social media:

“Wow, you get so much props, you dissed a 17-year-old,” he sarcastically said. “Lame ass jit.”
