Gucci Mane Talks Sobriety and "Black Beatles" Success on ESPN

Gucci Mane is on the promotional circuit to discuss his upcoming project The Return of East Atlanta Santa. He decided to stop by ESPN's His & Hers to talk Atlanta sports teams, managing his sobriety amidst hip-hop's party culture, and the success of "Black Beatles."

With the Rae Sremmurd record continuing to climb the charts—and inspire viral Mannequin Challenge videos—Gucci discussed his happiness about the song's success. "It's a huge accomplishment, I'm so grateful to even be on that track," he said. "That's the biggest record right now in America, and I'm just proud of it."  It recently became the highest-charting song Gucci Mane has ever appeared on, and he said the record's potential wasn't lost on him, even at the beginning. "When I got the track I knew it was a hit... but you never know how far things are gonna go," he said. "Every time I'm in the studio I'm aiming for the fences."

He also discussed how he sticks to his post-prison sobriety. "It's easy to me," he said. "To me it's kind of being more cocky. I love telling someone 'Hey listen, I don't do drugs...' I take pride in it, I like the response. It definitely surprises people and kinda throws them off, but I don't wanna be predictive. I don't wanna do what everyone else do, I do this for me."
