2 Live Crew will always be remembered for the cursing, which is a fitting legacy for the group that brought "pussy popping" and "dick throwing" to the mainstream. But in addition to being an all-around nasty motherfucker, frontman Luke was a shrewd label exec, as well as a warrior for First Amendment liberties. He was arguably rap's first superstar hype man, its first mogul-slash-artist in the Diddy mold, and the first Southern rapper to break the Mason-Dixon Line in hip-hop.
