Meek Mill gave everyone the return they were hoping for last week with his fourth studio album, CHAMPIONSHIPS. It's already sparked a lot of conversation thanks to the Philly rapper giving the project his all, a noteworthy JAY-Z feature on "What's Free," and the official end to his and Drake's beef in the form of another collaboration. Turns out, as Hits Daily Double reports, all that talk has done the album wonders.
Meek's first record since being released from prison earlier this year is expected to move between 150,000-175,000 album equivalent units in its first week, with 24-27,000 being pure sales. Meek's July 2017 full-length Wins & Losses pulled in an admirable 102,000 when it debuted, peaking at No. 3 on the Billboard 200. With the projections for CHAMPIONSHIPS looking considerably higher, however, Meek is in position to score his second No. 1 album. His 2015 release Dreams Worth More Than Money debuted in the top stop and spent two consecutive weeks there.
Lil Baby's Street Gossip didn't fare too badly, however, trailing behind with 80-90K predicted units, with 5,000-7,000 of those in pure sales. Last week also represented the long-awaited return of Earl Sweatshirt with his deeply personal Some Rap Songs, which features both of his parents on one track. The experimental and brief project, which runs just shy of 25 minutes, is expected to pull in 28-33K.
Earl's last album, 2015's I Don't Like Shit, I Don't Go Outside, peaked at No. 12 on the Billboard 200 with 30,000 during its first week.
