Look at that photo: Drake is a maniacal Austin Powers villain. Sartorial preferences aside, he's also a villain in a sense that he can pull off the latest entry in his "Clock Tower series" (shouts to Jinx), "4PM in Calabasas," a mean run-on verse that, ironically enough, takes shots at Puff Daddy while simultaneously paying homage by celebrating timeless Bad Boy lyrics and artists. The verse is an exercise in sublimanals that had Joe Budden putting his tinfoil hat on during his podcast and swearing that most of the jabs were intended for him.
The jury is out on Budden but there's little question that Diddy is a target. The flow, the beat, the "take that, take that," and "The higher I get, the less they accept me/Even had the OGs tryna press me/Ha-ha-ha-ha" line all point to this. The smack Diddy supposedly hit Drake with in December 2014 over the beat for "0 to 100" finally garners a response.
It's a Wednesday and Drake woke up feeling competitive. Hopefully he finds himself in this mood more often.
