Despite his incredibly open and seemingly incriminating interview with TMZ last week, Demi Lovato’s drug dealer will not be facing any sort of police investigation.
Brandon Johnson told the tabloid in a four-minute interview about the night of Demi’s overdose and the drugs he gave her, saying the singer “100 percent she knew what she was taking.”
At the end of July, Demi overdosed on Oxycodone laced with fentanyl. “I disclosed to her that these are not pharmaceutical, they’re after-market pills, they’re much stronger,” Johnson said in the video. “It was unfortunate what happened...I’m not here to hurt anybody, I care for her very much.”
He’s previously been arrested for gun possession, cocaine possession, and driving under the influence, but Lovato’s overdose and his following TMZ interview won’t land him any new charges, because overdoses are considered a self-induced “medical emergency," not a criminal act, per TMZ.
Johnson championed his innocence, which the LAPD has reinforced, despite his critical role in an incident that almost left the singer dead. He also claimed Demi’s overdose helped “open his eyes to the dangers of these drugs.”
“They’re fun, but in the wrong hands...they can be harmful. I hate to hurt anybody,” he said. “I’m not trying to hurt my friend...I hope she comes through this better than she was.”
The singer is now receiving treatment at a rehab facility on the east coast. According to TMZ, Demi is also selling her home in L.A. where the overdose took place.
