Singer-songwriter 6lack has returned with his long-awaited third studio album, Since I Have a Lover.

The Atlanta-based crooner and occasional rapper has left fans waiting for a full-length effort for almost five years, and he’s finally answered their prayers with Since I Have a Lover. The album even opens with a fan lamenting the lack of new music from him, before diving into the project proper with the slick “Inwood Hill Park.”

Since I Have a Lover features appearances from Don Toliver, Wale, Ty Dolla Sign, Quin, and India Shawn. On the production side of things, Leon Thomas, OZ, Fwdslxsh, Scribz Riley, Olu of Earthgang, and Teddy Walton among many others contributed. The project is his first studio album since 2018’s East Atlanta Love Letter, although he did tide fans over with the 6pc Hot EP in 2020.

"SIHAL, the album, is a collection of songs about love, and learning through the pains that come with growth,” said 6lack of the record. “It’s a reminder that regardless of the outcome, choosing to better yourself, and sharing that experience with the people around you, has a lasting effect." In a post shared on Instagram, he stressed how much work went into Since I Have a Lover and urged fans to “celebrate self love, family love, friend love, [and] love for your craft.” He also teased that he’ll take the album on the road at some point in the near future.
