Lil Nas X will appear on CBS This Morning later this week for a special segment with interviewer Gayle King. A teaser clip fropped on Monday showing that the discussion will touch on how he views the impact of his coming out message.
Asked about his childhood, X—who recently recalled the "nerve-wracking" experience of coming out to his father in a Billboardinterview—acknowledged the possible difficulties faced by those who aren't in his unique position as a celebrity.
"I knew, especially around my teenage years," X told King. "You know, I would just, like, pray and pray and pray . . . that it was, like, a phase [or] go away. Because me being in this position, it's easy for me. But, like, some little boy 10 miles from here, it's not gonna be good for him."
Speaking on the potential for his public coming out message to inspire fans who may be struggling, X continued:
"I think it's gonna always help," he said. "We still have a long way to go because it's not, like, everybody's messing with me now because of course somebody who's listening to me in school right now, it's like 'You gay because you're listening to him.' So [there's] still a lot to be done, of course, but I do believe that it's helping."

With X's 7 EP cuts "Old Town Road" and "Panini" still holding strong in the top 10, he's already started looking ahead to what's next. Earlier this month, he estimated that he was "2 percent done" with the writing for his next project. However, he told fans that he was going to "take a little time off" following a "wild last seven months."
