It’s been over two years since Young Thug last released a full-length solo project. Since Beautiful Thugger Girls arrived in June 2017, the Atlanta rapper has dropped two collaborative tapes (October 2017's Super Slimey with Future and last summer’s YSL label compilation Slime Language) and a pair of EPs (April 2018's three-song appetizer Hear No Evil and last fall's six-song On the Rvn). YSL has also announced that Super Slimey 2 is "coming soon." But none of these releases represent a proper follow-up to his 2017 project.

Finally, though, it appears another Thugger season is upon us again. Following the release of "The London," his highest-charting single as a lead artist to date, Young Thug has been on a spree of stellar guest verses, including appearances on singles from pop stars like Post Malone ("Goodbyes"), Ed Sheeran ("Feels"), and Lil Nas X ("Old Town Road Remix"). Meanwhile, he’s been teasing his forthcoming album on social media, dropping hints related to its title (So Much Fun), release date, and cover art, as well as potential features that might appear on the project.

As the expected release date nears, here’s everything we know about Young Thug’s next solo album.

J. Cole is expected to executive produce the album

The title has been changed from 'GØŁDMØÜFDÖG' to 'So Much Fun'

Hints about a new album began on social media in March. On YSL’s main Twitter account, the label got things going with a simple tweet, "ALBUM SOON," backed by a clip of Thug rapping along to an unreleased track featuring Roddy Rich.

Shortly after, Thugger took to his own Instagram and previewed a collaboration with 21 Savage and Doeboy, alongside a caption that read: “Album MOOD: #GØŁDMØÜFDÖG.

The tentative album name didn’t last very long, though. In an interview with No Jumper earlier this month, Thug mentioned potentially changing the album name to So Much Fun, feeling like it captured his intent better than the former. Four days later, he posted this tweet, officially changing the title.

Young Thug has hinted it will arrive in the coming weeks

In late May, the same week that "The London" dropped, YSL seemingly launched a countdown clock to the release of the album, under the web domain goldmoufdog.com. However, the time increases and decreases as the page is refreshed and nothing happens when the clock hits zero, making it seem like nothing more than a prank.

Fast forward several weeks: When asked about the album in a recent interview with No Jumper, Thug said that would come out in "probably three more weeks or a month, probably gonna wait six more weeks I don’t know."

While the official release date is unknown, it is worth noting that his joint tour with Machine Gun Kelly will start in Toronto on September 30. Will So Much Fun drop beforehand?

"The London" could be a preview of the album's direction

A couple of months after announcing a new single on Instagram in March (the post has since been deleted), Thug released "The London" to streaming services in the lead up to Memorial Day weekend. Featuring verses from J. Cole and Travis Scott, along with production from T-Minus, the song represents the only pre-release single we've heard from Thug during this album cycle. Cole's appearance on the track, coupled with the news that he will executive produce the album, hints that this might be a preview of the sound Thug will attack on the rest of the project. "The London" became Thugger’s highest-charting single as a lead artist, peaking at Number 12 on the Billboard Hot 100 in June.

Some fans think he teased cover art on Instagram

On May 23, the same day he shared "The London" with the world, Young Thug posted a portrait to his Instagram with the caption "COVER ART: THE LONDON." Considering that the cover art for the single is different on streaming services, the Instagram post had fans to jumping to conclusions, wondering if it was actually the official album artwork. Sure, Thug has never been one to shy away from sassy album covers (Remember JEFFREY?), but until we see an official announcement, it’s safe to chalk this one up as nothing more than scuttlebutt.

Potential features may include 21 Savage, Gunna, Roddy Ricch, Lil Duke, and Doe Boy

Over the past few months, Young Thug has previewed numerous unreleased songs on social media, many of which sound like collaborations with some of his favorite co-stars. Of the many snippets that can be found on his Instagram, here are four that feature some of hip-hop’s hottest young stars: Lil Duke, Roddy Ricch, 21 Savage, Doe Boy, and Gunna.
