Artists are starting to bring their critically acclaimed mixtapes from the blog era into the streaming era. Keeping with this trend, the founder of Rostrum Records, Benjy Grinberg, announced that Mac Miller's breakout mixtape, K.I.D.S., will be on streaming services later this year.
Grinberg made this announcement via Instagram and the news comes on the ninth anniversary of K.I.D.S.' release.
"On this 9th anniversary of the first tape that Mac and Rostrum put out together, I’m excited to announce that K.I.D.S. will be available on all streaming services later this year!" Grinberg captioned the post containing the mixtape's cover art. "After Macadelic came out, Mac asked if we could clear this one next. It has been challenging but we are getting through it. We miss Mac every day and we see our job as making sure his music lives on. We love you, Mac."
K.I.D.S.—which is an acronym for Kickin' Incredibly Dope Shit—opened Mac Miller's fanbase to the mainstream. It spawned a hit single in "Knock, Knock" as well as showcased his understanding and love for hip-hop as he rapped over beats that sampled the likes of Nas, Q-Tip, and Lord Finesse. With K.I.D.S. as his foundation, Miller grew to be a versatile artist with an intense and loyal fanbase that is prominent even after his death.
To remember his legacy, Mac's fans will be hosting a gathering at Pittsburgh's Blue Slide Park on the anniversary of his passing on Sept. 7.
