Back in 2016, anonymous producer Banshee burst onto the scene with the self-released 12" "High Let Me Fly", which ended up selling out, and now he's back with his debut EP, Thought Bubbles (dropping July 5 via Goon Club Allstars, pre-order here). Ahead of the EP's release and following on from the first single, "Ecstasy Baby", we've got the second single, "Thought Bubble 1", a glossy, sugary repurposing of twisted and looped samples dug out from the recesses of YouTube. Impossible to categorise, the overarching sound of "Thought Bubble 1" is a combination of dreamlike vocal clips and skittish, percussive rhythms that put those found sounds into an entirely new context.
Speaking with Complex via email, Banshee explained: "I made the track with the sun beaming in a few summers ago in London, not really wanting to stay inside — and that ambivalence towards screens and their constant presence had an effect. I was thinking about vanity and naivety, and this kind of miniaturised, cheap glamour that interests me, especially when it combines with technology."
