Complex Sessions 036: Deejay Abstract

2016's Red Bull Thre3style National Champion in the Netherlands, Deejay Abstract's status as a hip-hop selector in Europe is unquestioned.

Having made a name for himself both at home and abroad, Deejay Abstract has become a staple on the festival circuit, which is presumably why WOO HAH! Festival in the Netherlands were so keen to have him on board. Abstract will be playing on the Desert Stage at 2.00am on Friday 12th July. Joining him at the festival will be Travis Scott, Stormzy, Octavian, Aminé, BROCKHAMPTON, Pusha-T, Rae Sremmurd, Rich The Kid, Flatbush Zombies, JPEGMAFIA, Trippie Redd, YBN Cordae, JID, Gunna, Rico Nasty, Saweetie, D-Block Europe, Jarreau Vandal, Jamz Supernova, JD. Reid, Lil Uzi Vert, Little Simz, Ocean Wisdom, TOKiMONSTA, Kojaque and many more.

WOO HAH! Festival takes place at Hilvarenbeek, Brabant, Netherlands, from Friday 12th July to Sunday 14th July. Head here for tickets and more info.

Tell us a bit about your selections in this mix.

This mix is a combination of tracks by artists performing at WOO HAH! and releases from this year.

What was the one track you absolutely had to include?

"Ned Flanders" by MadeinTYO.

Any tracks that narrowly missed the cut?

Hoodrich Pablo Juan's "Just Vibe", Lil Baby's "All Of A Sudden", Maxo Kream's "She Live", DJ Snake's "Enzo" and Ocean Wisdom's "Real Smooth".

What's the first single or album you ever bought?

I think it was a Killah Priest 12", although I can't remember the title.

What's the last physical record you bought?

Madvilliany by Madvillian!

What do you want to see happen musically over the next 12 months?

The diversity from the likes of The Neptunes, Timbaland, Swizz Beatz and Darkchild transformed today's sound. With that said, a lot of releases sound alike these days, making it harder to find the jewels. Don't get me wrong: I don't mind today's music, but we need more 'owned' sounds.

What trend or scene absolutely needs to die right now?

The trend that everybody plays the same hits at the same party, hour after hour. Die! Now!
