South London-based R&B duo Temptress can seemingly do it all—sing, write, direct and produce, and even make their own videos via their production company Plastic Fruit Studios.
On "Secret", their new single, Tempstress bring all of those talents to the fore with a fusion of dark pop and R&B that is both brooding and passionate. It also gets pretty out-there with the sonic textures that are used, but those experimental moments are always tethered to the infectious, almost club-ready rhythms that form the track's backbone.
Speaking with Complex via email, Temptress told us: "'Secret' is about how keeping a secret for someone can tear you apart, keep you awake at night and cause you anxiety. It's a constant dilemma keeping it under wraps, but you don't want do something you might regret by revealing the truth."
