Rising rapper Lil Nas X has earned his first-ever Hot 100 entry with "Old Town Road," a country-inspired rap track about the cowboy lifestyle.
"I got the horses in the back/Horse tack is attached/Hat is matte black/Got the boots that's black to match." he spits. "Ridin' on a horse/You can whip your Porsche/I been in the valley/You ain't been up off that porch, now."
The song, which currently sits at No. 83 on the Hot 100, was released in late 2018 and has since become a viral sensation, thanks in large part to countless TikTok memes. Many users have used "Old Town Road" to soundtrack their Yee Haw transformations, an online challenge in which an individual transforms into a cowboy/cowgirl.
In addition to its Hot 100 debut this week, "Old Town Road" has landed at No. 36 on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. Nielsen Music reports the YoungKio-produced track earned 8.8 million U.S. streams and 4,000 downloads in the week ending March 7. "Old Town Road" has also topped the Apple Music country charts as well as Spotify's U.S. Viral and Global Viral charts. Additionally, Billboard reports Nas X has secured the No. 14 slot on the Emerging Artists chart.
The visual for "Old Town Road" has also raked in impressive numbers. The video, which uses scenes from the Red Dead Redemption 2 video game, has garnered nearly 4.8 million YouTubes and 170,000 "likes."
