For his new Streams of Thought sequel, Black Thought only needed three sessions to bag what he needed.

"From convo to concept," Black Thought teased earlier this month. "Trust the process." That process, at least for Streams of Thought Vol. 2, also encompassed a pair of flights to Miami and an impressive nine-track new project to show for it. On production, we have Salaam Remi.

With his latest solo project, Black Thought is aiming to "elevate hip-hop to high art." The cover art, first unveiled earlier this month, was designed by artist Leslie Hewitt. Wednesday, Hewitt will join Black Thought for Conversations: Among Friends—Crossing Disciplines at the Museum of Modern Art in New York. Taja Cheek and Jasmine Martin will moderate.

For Streams of Thought Vol. 1, the Roots MC linked with producers 9th Wonder and Khrysis. In an interview with NPR promoting the album last year, Black Thought explained why he didn't refer to the inaugural project as a "solo album." For him, it's all simply about exploring a different kind of creative energy.

"It's always been about the greater good of our organization for me," he said at the time. "All those solo efforts that I've announced, it breathes new life into the awareness of me as an artist."
