Before his untimely death, XXXTentacion had accumulated a slew of criminal charges that ranged from robbery to witness tampering to false imprisonment to aggravated battery. His ex-girlfriend Geneva Ayala detailed the alleged abuse she endured throughout their relationship, claiming he would regularly backhand her, choke her, threaten to kill her, and at one time beat her so bad she lost some of her vision; the latter incident allegedly occurred when Ayala was pregnant.

XXX denied the allegations up until his fatal shooting back in June.

“[…] Everybody figured out she was lying. She was saying she needed surgery, there was nothing wrong with her,” he told XXL about Ayala’s claims in 2017. “She was saying she was pregnant, but she’s not pregnant. It’s not by me. She wasn’t pregnant when I was with her. That whole situation is just fucked up. I got arrested on some fucked up charges. She stole $13,000 from me, nobody knows that.”

Though XXX would ultimately maintain his innocence, newly released audio published by Pitchfork seemingly confirms Ayala’s claims. The publication obtained the secretly recorded tape from the Miami-Dade County state attorney’s office. Officials say prosecutors and XXX’s legal team considered the 27-minute audio a confession, as the rapper suggests he has used physical violence to intimidate his then-girlfriend.

“What nobody’s understanding, I put my source of happiness in another person, which was a mistake initially, right?” he can be heard saying in an excerpt. “But she fell through on every occasion … until now. Until I started fucking her up, bro. I started fucking her up because she made one mistake. And from there, the whole cycle went down. Now she’s scared. That girl is scared for her life. Which I understand.”

XXX goes on to say he was responsible for multiple stabbings that took place in 2016 in Deerfield Beach, Florida.

“[Redacted] you seen me. You know what I do to people,” he’s heard telling several unidentified people. “[…] All them boys knew. It’s on fucking [Miami] New Times. I'm on New Times for stabbing—how many people they put in the news? They said three; it was eight. In Deerfield. She know that. She's seen this shit. She's seen when I came back from [redacted] in Orlando.”

He continued: “She seen when I came back, had a brand new laptop. No tears on my face, no remorse.... I just knew I was going to jail. She know. So she's scared. She thinks I'm going to kill her.”

Less than two months after XXX was gunned down, his domestic violence case was officially dropped.
