Vic Mensa Defends Criticizing XXXTentacion During BET Hip Hop Awards Cypher

Vic Mensa posted a video on Instagram where he explains why he's standing behind his freestyle at XXXTentacion.

Vic Mensa responded on Monday to the backlash he received over his cypher at the BET Hip-Hop Awards where he allegedly called XXXTentacion an "abuser." In a video posted on Instagram, Vic stood by his criticisms towards X, who was accused of domestic and sexual abuse prior to his death. He does, however, acknowledge that he never intended to offend the late rapper’s mother Cleopatra Bernard as she attended the ceremony to accept his award for Best New Artist.

On Sunday, DJ Scheme posted a tweet directed at Mensa for some of the bars he spit in his freestyle.

yo bro how u gone say
“Your favorite rapper is an abuser” and then follow it with a line saying “some shit X some shit so I won’t live long” u can deny it but everyone who was there heard that shit

Vic isn't denying his statements, instead, he wants to use his platform to hold someone like X accountable for his actions. "I vehemently reject the trend in hip-hop of championing abusers, and I will not hold my tongue about it," he explains. "I don’t give a fuck about getting attention. I care about bringing awareness, and holding people accountable for their actions."

The 2018 BET Hip-Hop Awards will be televised on October 16.
