Mike Dean Shows Travis Scott's 5-Year Growth From Tiny Crowds to Huge Festivals

In a post on Instagram, Dean compares Scott's early days performing in front of crowds of a few dozen people to this weekend's gig at Austin City Limits

2018 has undoubtedly been a huge year for Travis Scott, with the birth of his first child, Stormi, and the release of ASTROWORLD, but this past weekend marked an especially high note. The Houston rapper made his Saturday Night Live debut on Saturday, and closed out Austin City Limits on Sunday night in his home state.

The excitement of this weekend, coupled with Scott’s eventful year, made his longtime collaborator, confidant, and legendary producer Mike Dean a bit nostalgic. On Instagram, Dean compared footage of La Flame performing in 2013 to Sunday night’s ACL performance. "What a difference 5 years makes," Dean wrote. "We came a long way @travisscott this gives all young artists hope."

In the first video, a young 20- or 21-year-old Scott performs to a small crowd of a few dozen people, trying to hype them up and coerce them to put their hands in the air. The second video shows La Flame getting ready to kill "Sicko Mode" in front of thousands of screaming fans at Austin’s largest music festival.

Scott's big year isn't over yet. Next month, Cactus Jack hosts his inaugural Astroworld Festival in his hometown and kicks off his tour on Nov. 8 in Baltimore.
