An early highlight from Nicki Minaj's new album Queen, her first since 2014's The Pinkprint, is the Biggie-flipping "Barbie Dreams." In the track, Minaj hilariously switches up the script with some ruthless jabs at everyone from Drake to Meek Mill to the god of 666 himself, Lil Uzi Vert.
The album also includes the previously released Lil Wayne collab "Rich Sex," the Ariana Grande–featuring "Bed," and the lyrically over-dissected "Chun-Li." Additional Queen collaborators include Eminem, Swae Lee, the Weeknd, and upcoming tour partner Future. The production here is equally as stacked, including Murda Beatz, Mike WiLL Made-It, and Metro Boomin coming through.
Minaj, who understandably "deactivated from the matrix" colloquially known as social media during the bulk of Queen sessions, told Zane Lowe earlier this year that the 19-track album represented her strongest work to date. "I wanted to make sure I was writing something that was meaningful to me and that would inspire and that would captivate my audience," she explained. "But most importantly, I wanted to have fun [in the studio] again." The first few spins of the album, which she went through track-by-track on Beats 1 early Friday afternoon, would suggest that Minaj was definitely able to secure that atmosphere.
