Drake co-signed Nigerian singer Burna Boy dropped an excellent 12-song project in January called Outside that blends the sounds of Afrobeat, dancehall, R&B, and pop with a buoyant, summer-ready flair.
Beginning his journey as a musician when he was 10 years old, Burna Boy's musical identity was in part inspired by his family's musical legacy. His grandfather used to manage Nigerian Afrobeat legend Fela Kuti, inspiring Burna Boy to carve his own path and create his own sound, which he calls Afro-fusion.
One of Outside's highlights is "Devil in California," a silky cut that leans into late-night overindulgence as Burna delivers woozy lines about intoxication and a lingering devil on his shoulder. Today, the song comes to life with a moody video that follows Burna as he explores night life in the Hollywood hills.
