It's hard to name another artist who has put together an impressive resume as quietly as Kali Uchis. For some, she's the person who has provided vocals for such Tyler, the Creator songs as "Fucking Young/Perfect" and "See You Again." But did you know that, in 2017, Kali was not only nominated for a Latin Grammy for Record of the Year for her contributions on Juanes' hit single "El Ratico," she also snagged a nom at this year's Grammys for Best R&B Performance for her feature on "Get You" by Daniel Caesar?

After releasing two singles—"Tyrant" featuring Jorja Smith and the Reykon-assisted "Nuestro Planeta"—Kali is set to take 2018 by storm, dropping her latest track, "After the Storm," with Tyler, the Creator and Bootsy Collins.

While Tyler's appearance makes all the sense in the world because, well, he owes her, the Bootsy feature was something akin to the stars aligning just right for the singer. Following her feature in Billboard where she expressed a desire to work with the funk legend, Bootsy reached out to her to make it happen. "That happened right after my Billboard feature when I said I wanted to work with him. He just reached out to me," she toldNoisey. "I got to go and meet his whole family; they live on a ranch in Ohio. I stayed in this hotel across the street from them and we were together every day, it was so much fun."
