Common Loves the Name Chicago West: 'He Deserves to Be Able to Do That'

Common thinks Chicago West is a "fresh name for a kid."

Kim Kardashian announced on Friday that her third child with Kanye West is named after West's hometown. Common, another one of Chicago's own, got a chance to weigh-in on the newborn's name.

A TMZ reporter caught up with the "ambassador of Chicago" and asked him what he thought of the name Chicago West. And apparently Common is all for it.

"I love it. I love it. That's incredible," said Common in the above video. "First of all, that's my family, Kanye and Kim. So for him, he deserves to be able to name his child Chicago for as much as he does for our city and for as much as he loves our city." Common also added that Chicago is "a fresh name for a kid."

West has been repping for his hometown in his songs as well as through philanthropy work. Back in 2015, Kanye donated $133,000 to Donda's House, a nonprofit organization named after his late mother that works to support young aspiring artists in his hometown.

"His leadership has enabled Donda’s House to grow quickly and impact the lives of over 160 of Chicago’s young people already in our short history," said Rhymefest, Ye's music collaborator and co-founder of Donda's House, in a statement at the time. "This is a great honor and a true tribute to his mother’s legacy, who did so much for young artists."
