On Thursday, XXXTentacion surprised pretty much everybody by announcing that he had a song on the way with none other than Miley's little sister, Noah Cyrus.
The song, called "Again," started making waves even before it came out. A ton of people were outraged that Cyrus had put out a song with someone not only accused of horrific violence against an ex-girlfriend, but who then threatened and mocked people who were critical of him. Complex reached out to a rep for Cyrus to find out more, but didn't hear back.
The singer herself did not mention the song directly on social media in advance of its release. However, she put out a short teaser on Instagram for an upcoming track earlier in the week that many fans took to be an acknowledgement of XXX's involvement.
As soon as word of the song started spreading, people began thinking that this move might sink Cyrus' career, which is still in its very early stages.
As for the song itself, which you can listen to here if you're so inclined, XXX's part is pretty calm by his standards. He's doing some heavily pitch-corrected singing about a woman "screaming in my head" and causing him to go "running from myself." Cyrus, perhaps scared of the brewing backlash, seems to be hiding from the song, not mentioning its release on social media.
