The Top Dawg Entertainment crew will cap off another year by giving back to their fans.
This week, the hip-hop record label will host its third annual holiday concert and toy giveaway in Watts, California. The public event will include performances by TDE’s roster of artists as well as donations to families in need.
The inaugural concert started in 2014, after Jay Rock and TDE’s CEO, Anthony “Top Dawg” Tiffith, decided to show love to their hometown. The men admitted the holiday season wasn’t easy for them as children, and they wanted to use their platforms to spread cheer around their old communities. Of course, the rest of the TDE jumped on board.
"In cities like Watts, Compton and South Central, a lot of these kids don’t get to leave their neighborhoods,” the label's President Dave Free told MTV in 2015. “They don’t get to go to these shows. They don’t have the resources, money or opportunities to be in these environments, to be submerged in music, culture and different elements. To me, that’s an important thing. That’s what I see in all these families, in their faces, that excitement."
The 2015 event included performances by TDE’s Kendrick Lamar, ScHoolboy Q, Rock, and SZA, as well as guest artists Big Sean and Ty Dolla Sign. This year’s concert is shaping up to be just as good, with appearances by “all your favorite TDE artists” and special guests.
The third annual TDE holiday concert and toy giveaway will take place from noon to 4 p.m. PST, Tuesday at Nickerson Garden Projects in Watts, California.
