Hold up. Is J. Cole talking about Kanye West on his new track "False Prophets," taken from his just-announced album 4 Your Eyez Only? That's the word among lyric dissection experts, who have been hitting Twitter with the quickness to theorize that a sizable portion of the Freddie Joachim-produced track sees Cole directly addressing the trajectory of West's (largely unmatched) career:
Seemingly written from the perspective of Cole as a fan of West's earlier work, the timing of "False Prophets" seems unfortunate at best. After all, West did just spend a week in the hospital after canceling the rest of his Saint Pablo tour amid rumors that he's battling mental health issues.
Since the track appeared in Cole's Eyez documentary on Thursday night, fans have started speculating on the value of this lyrical content on Twitter while also (of course) getting some jokes off in the process:
