Vince Staples has spoken out about the viral video of a Christian mother ranting about the lyrics used on his song "Norf Norf," following an apparent "misquote" at the hands of the Independent. According to Staples, the woman in the video seen around the world is clearly confused on the context of the lyrics she deemed shocking enough to rail against in an 11-minute video.
"What I was saying was that the woman in that video is clearly confused on the context of the song which causes her to be frightened," Staples said on Twitter on Thursday morning, after sarcastically thanking Independent writer Justin Carissimo for misquoting him. "She also, in my opinion, seems to be emotionally unstable." Peep the tweets in full:
The misquote in question seems to stem from an interview with Vince Staples published by the Independent on Wednesday, in which Staples called the response to the video "immature" and condemned it. "We already have a lot of issues between black and white relations in this country based on misunderstandings," the Independentquoted Staples as telling them. "In my eyes, she doesn't look like a racist. She doesn't look like a mean person."
Maybe perplexed Christians should start peeping Genius more often.
