UPDATED, 8/8/16, 9:15 p.m. ET: Is Travi$ Scott pulling a Frank Ocean? Last month, the rapper announced that Birds in the Trap Sing McKnight would drop on Aug. 5. Well, the date came and went, and fans are still without the album; however, Scott insists it's coming very soon.
On Monday, the rapper hit up social media to announce that more info on the project will come at an event on Aug. 12.
Scott also teased a free event, co-hosted by Chase B, that will go down somewhere in L.A. next Friday. According to the rapper's Instagram, the party will kick off "BIRD SZN," and will feature an installation by James Turrell, the artist who inspired Drake's "Hotline Bling" video. Travi$ Scott announced the release date for his long-awaited new album Birds in the Trap Sing McKnight during a concert on Tuesday at the Ford Ampitheater at Coney Island Boardwalk.
"I want everybody to lock in a date right now in their brains," he said. "August 5th. Birds in the Trap coming soon!" Footage of the announcement can be seen below.
In addition, Scott performed a new song called "Shit to Lose."
Scott has been teasing the release of Birds in the Trap Sing McKnight since the spring. He also recently announced a deal with Apple Music during an interview on Shade 45. During that same appearance, Scott said that he was also working on a short film to accompany the album.
Scott's fans were overjoyed with the announcement of Birds... release date.
However, not everyone was convinced that the album would actually be released on the date Scott announced.
