Since breaking off as a solo artist, Zayn Malik has made plenty of waves during the lead up to his highly-anticipated debut album, Mind of Mine, but arguably no moment was greater than the release of his "Pillowtalk" video. While the moment was big due to the fact that this was his first solo single and video, it was also huge because of the steamy interaction between him and his model girlfriend Gigi Hadid. In Zayn's new April/May Complex cover story, he talks about shooting the video and how the chemistry with Gigi all came together naturally. "To be honest, the reason it was used was because we were just messing around," Zayn says. "It wasn’t even, like, part of the shoot. You know when they say, 'action?' They didn’t do that. It was just rolling."
As far as his relationship with Gigi, Zayn isn't quite ready to put everything out in the public, so for now it's a balancing act between his professional and private life. "I try to keep the two very separate. I try to, as much as I can. But there’s only so much you can do," he says. However, Zayn did admit that he's learning to deal with it all over time. "It’s just one of those things now, in the background. I just leave it as a bit of a noise in the background."
