Detroit born and raised songstress Mayaeni comes through today with her latest mixtape titled Basement Kid. The Roc Nation artist exhibits both her talent and taste with a cover of Jay Electronica's "Exhibit C," focusing mostly on the Billy Stewart sample used in the song. She also takes on J. Cole's "G.O.M.D" and The Pharcyde's "Passin' Me By." “Basement kid is a homage to my past. I used to love going to the record store and buying cassette tapes that had the instrumental track on it," Mayaeni told Complex over email. “I would go home and run straight to the basement and spend hours using my dad's Fostex Cassette 8 track recorder I'd write and record my own songs over the instrumentals and make remixes/mashups.”

Mayaeni is no stranger to showcasing her voice. The singer has a penchant for reviving incredible songs and debuted a stellar cover of A$AP Rocky's inescapable hit "LSD" last year. The Basement Kid is a clear extension of the rising singer, created in the comfort and familiar walls of her own basement. "This is what I've created alone in a dark basement and I wanted to bring it to light. Basement kid is a homage to my past. It's for the true lovers of underground music."
