Spike Jonze was an early Sleigh Bells supporter: He posted their music on his Where The Wild Things Are blog and personally played M.I.A. records off his iPhone at her house in L.A. Shortly after, she hit the band up without notice. They told Pitchfork: "During CMJ, Maya just flew to New York and didn't even tell us. She called me on a Saturday and was like, "Hey, I'm at the airport. I'm coming over tomorrow. Play me a bunch of shit and then let's go to the studio on Monday." They were eventually signed to her N.E.E.T. imprint, and Derek Miller even produced the "Treats"-sampling tune "Meds And Feds" on M.I.A.'s new album, MAYA.
