Family Calls for Answers After Detroit Woman Found Beaten to Death in Car

The family recently held a vigil for the 22-year-old woman whose body was found in the backseat of a car. A suspect hasn't yet been identified.

A 22-year-old woman was found dead in a car in Detroit this month, with police having not yet zeroed in on a possible suspect for the heinous crime.

Per a report from regional outlet WDIV Local 4, a vigil was held this week for Zambrecia Worksel, who was known by those close to her by the nickname Breezy. Family has speculated that whoever is responsible for the killing “had to be somebody she knew,” although local law enforcement hasn’t publicly revealed such information regarding the ongoing investigation into her death.

Speaking with the outlet, the woman’s mother, Lajuana Jackson, called whoever was responsible for taking her daughter’s life “a real coward.” She also noted she had 10 years earlier lost Breezy’s brother.

Permeating the vigil, per WDIV, was the sense that the bulk of questions surrounding the woman’s untimely death remained unanswered. At the time of this writing, what was currently known was that Worksel had been found “beaten to death” in the backseat of a 2017 Dodge Journey.

According to a GoFundMe page launched in response to the killing, the woman’s body was found on Aug. 12. Donations for the fundraiser, the organizer of which is listed as Worksel’s mother Lajuana, will go toward costs associated with laying the 22-year-old to rest.

Complex has reached out to reps for the Detroit Police Department for additional comment on the status of this case. This post may be updated. At the time of this writing, local police had not spoken publicly about the case.
