Hillary Clinton has announced Virginia Senator Tim Kaine as her vice presidential running mate, ending months of speculation. Clinton's announcement came via Twitter to her supporters of her campaign, who received the following confirmation:

Clinton's camp followed the announcement tweet with another one describing Kaine as a "relentless optimist" and which featured footage of Kaine on the campaign trail with Clinton.

.@TimKaine is a relentless optimist who believes no problem is unsolvable if you put in the work to solve it.https://t.co/pui1WFEVpS

"Hillary's ready to be our leader. Hillary's ready to make history," Kaine said in the voiceover accompanying the footage. Kaine said the quote at the recent Annandale, Va. Clinton rally.

Kaine has since responded to news of the announcement tweeting he was "honored."

Just got off the phone with Hillary. I’m honored to be her running mate. Can’t wait to hit the trail tomorrow in Miami!

The move comes just one day after GOP nominee Donald Trump delivered a divisive speech at the Republican National Convention, a speech Clinton refuted on Twitter as not representative of the nation:

Donald Trump doesn't represent us.
His ideas don't represent us.
And his values don't represent us.
