Multiple People Reportedly Dead After Louisiana Plane Crash

The plane was "engulfed in flames" as it crash-landed into a field behind a Walmart Supercenter.

Multiple fatalities have been reported after a small plane crashed in Lafayette, Louisiana, local station KATC reports.

Five people have died, authorities confirmed to the news station. There was one survivor, the Lafayette Fire Department said. Three people were transported to a local hospital after sustaining injuries.

The plane was "engulfed in flames" as it crash-landed into a field behind a Walmart Supercenter, according to KPEL. There were six people on the plane, and one had burns on "100 percent" of their body. The plane reportedly hit a power line while attempting their emergency landing. The crash blew out the windows of a nearby post office.

Federal investigators are taking over the scene, according to local reports.
