After a confrontation broke out just outside of a Vancouver Starbucks, a man fatally stabbed a father after being asked to stop vaping around his three-year-old daughter.

According to the Vancouver Sun, the victim, Paul Stanley Schmidt, was waiting for his wife outside the coffee shop with his daughter when the suspect, Inderdeep Singh Gosal, began vaping in close proximity to them.

Schmidt initially asked Gosal to stop vaping around his child but the request then devolved into a heated argument leading to Gosal stabbing Schmidt.

Both Shmidt’s wife and child saw the tragic ordeal unfold.

Schmidt was rushed to the hospital but ultimately succumbed to his injuries

“This is so horribly wrong what happened,” said his mother Kathy Schmidt to the Vancouver Sun. “He was just trying to protect his daughter. I’m angry and I’m sad.”

Police arrived shortly after the stabbing and arrested Singh Gosal. They then charged him with second-degree murder.

Bystanders recorded the ordeal and some captured the exact moment Schmidt was stabbed. Police caught wind of the video going viral online and implored social media users to not share it.

“It is a graphic video,” said Vancouver Police Department Sargeant Steve Addison. “We are encouraging people not to share that video [...] If you’ve got video, if you are a bystander, if you are a witness, please come forward and speak to our investigators, provide it to our investigators.”
