Jacquelyn Smith, 54, was simply trying to help out someone who looked like they were in need of some financial assistance. There was no need for her to die for her generosity. Peoplereports that at about 12:30 a.m. Saturday morning the Maryland resident, along with her husband Keith, who was driving the car, saw a woman standing on the side of the road. She had what appeared to be a baby in tow, and a sign that read, "Please help me feed my baby."

Baltimore police say when Smith approached to hand the woman some money through the passenger-side window, a man came forward to thank her for the donation, reaching inside Smith's car to snatch her purse and necklace. Amid their struggle, the man pulled out a knife and stabbed Smith in the chest. The woman and man fled the scene while Smith's husband rushed her to a nearby hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Keith Smith recounted to the Baltimore Sun that before leaving, “This girl actually said, ‘God bless you.'"

Two of Jacquelyn's friends toldCBS Baltimore that she had a heart of gold. "It just don’t sound right to me. It just don’t sound right, it really doesn’t," another friend commented. "But if it did, I can see her doing that. Going in her purse and giving someone some money. Because she’s the type of person who would do that for anybody."

The Baltimore Sunreported Smith had been out for a night of dancing with her husband to celebrate his daughter's 28th birthday.
