Donald Trump claims foreign labor is "killing" the United States and the economy. But it turns out the Republican nominee has reportedly been profiting from the same "criminal" labor in his own businesses.
During the presidential debate on Thursday night, Hillary Clinton accused her Republican opponent of using undocumented laborers and foreign steel to build his Trump Tower in Midtown Manhattan. Clinton's claims coincide with reports by Wall Street Journal and the Washington Post. The latter reported that Trump signed on to a 2004 deal to employ foreign workers to produce a men's clothing line.
According to the reports, in 2004 Trump wanted workers to help produce his men's clothing line on a mass scale. While he reportedly specified the standards for his merchandise, he didn't express a preference concerning the nationality of his workers. Ironically, on the campaign trail, Trump has blasted companies including Ford Motor Co. and Oreo cookies for opening factories in Mexico.
During the third debate Trump stated that he would move to bring jobs and labor back to the United States. Trump said that he knows how to fix the current labor policies that encourage outsourcing because he has so much experience in business. "Nobody knows it better than me," he said. "I’m a businessman. These are laws. These are regulations. These are rules. We’re allowed to do it. . . . But I’m the one that knows how to change it."
