Shooting At Mall of America Prompts Lockdown, Leaves 1 Dead

A shooting at the Mall of America has left one dead with the suspect at large. The lock-down was lifted after one hour, but the mall remained closed.

At least one person has been killed in a shooting that took place Friday afternoon at the Mall of America. After police responded and lifted the mandated lock-down, the mall will remain closed for the duration of the night.

At around 8:17 p.m. Bloomington Police responded to a reported shooting at the mall. Videos on social media show shoppers hiding in stores—but the incident in question allegedly took place within the vicinity of Nordstroms.

The identity of the deceased along with the shooter have not been confirmed per Fox News.

The Mall of America security is working in conjunction with Bloomington Police and have released the following statement:

“Just before 8 p.m. this evening, Bloomington Police Department responded to a shooting contained in a tenant space. As a result, Mall of America was put into lock-down. The lock-down has since been lifted. The Mall is now closed for the evening.”

Bloomington Police and EMS are on scene of a reported shooting at the Mall Of America. MOA is on lockdown. Please stay out of the area. Information will be released via twitter as it becomes available.

This shooting comes just two days before Christmas but is the second lock-down this year in Mall of America after bullets flew outside of the Nike store in August. No one was injured. In October, the mall implemented a new metal detector system after two shots rang out on New Year’s Eve last year leaving two people injured.
