After Diane Abbott MP said that Boris Johnson needed a “massive soundsystem” for his Downing Street parties during COVID-19 lockdown, former Man United footballer and Sky Sports pundit, Gary Neville joined in on the fun, saying that Number 10 should be renamed after Manchester’s iconic Haçienda nightclub.

Speaking on the recently labelled ‘Partygate’, Neville took to Twitter and said: “No 10 Downing St should be renamed ‘Hacienda’,” with responses agreeing that the “24-hour party politicians” might just do better in the infamous party venue.

The former Man United captain has been becoming a lot more politically vocal of late, with a recent report suggesting he might be trying his hand in politics.

“I have joined the Labour party in the last few days,” he said on the BBC’s Political Thinking podcast. “I want to support Labour. I do believe that we need a progressive Labour Party, but one that actually not just looks after the left side; it has to come towards the centre.”

Neville has also given an inkling that he may run for the Mayor of Manchester next, although he has told the BBC that if he did actually go for the job, he would be “eaten alive” at Westminster.

While the investigation into Downing Street’s lockdown parties continues, Neville also tweeted that he thinks the current government is “rancid”.
