It’s an exciting time for Australia’s burgeoning streetwear scene. With a plethora of established and emerging brands on the market, no matter who you are, you’d be hard pressed to not find at least one brand out there that speaks to you. Today, we’re bringing you three streetwear brands on the come up, our ‘ones to watch’, if you will. While each possesses their own distinct flavour, all share a commonality in that they cater to those who are wired to express themselves through more than just clothes—with a preference for pieces packed with intent and meaning.

Established in 2019 in Melbourne, Purgatory is a label that stands out from the crowd by taking an intentional approach to design. On offer from the brand is a wide range staple pieces including sweaters, hoodies, bikini sets, and track pants. Catering to all genders, Purgatory’s variety of staples give you the freedom to mix and match options to create your desired look—and complete your wardrobe. The brand has also garnered international attention with Chicago hip-hop artist, Saba, pictured in Feb on a Times Square billboard wearing Purgatory’s ‘GUNRANGE’ button-up tee. If you’re not yet convinced to shop some threads from Purgatory, it might be worth trying on their line in person at their permanent concept space in Melbourne, located at Top Floor Gallery.

Charles LeBrun, another Melbourne-based label, blend sportswear and fashion in their timeless, basketball-inspired collections—and they’re on the offense with their latest drop. The brand offers everyone a seat at the table with genderless clothing options that take the form of hoodies, crewnecks, hats, and t-shirts—all doused in colour palettes that blend seamlessly into any wardrobe. Their latest line, Galerie Des Glaces, draws inspiration from Louis XIV’s court painter, Charles LeBrun—whose name you’ll find printed all over one of the collection’s star pieces, the ‘Painter Pants’. For all the hoopers in Australia looking to find new ways to take their on-court style off-court, Charles LeBrun is the emerging brand that will cater to you.

Yuth understands what it means to make clothes for the young and the bold. Founded in Sydney, the brand aims to dress those who take on the world with a sense of vigilance and street elegance—and want to be best dressed for every endeavour. So far, Yuth have served up staple pieces that are satisfyingly snug, including their sold out Yuth beanies, ‘BLAME GAME’ hoodie, ‘Save Our Souls’ tee, and their latest ‘CERTI SWEATS’ sweatpants. As a brand, Yuth’s creative direction is centred around “operating as a mirror of the unique cultural diversity that has defined Sydney and the new Australian landscape.” Executing their vision is something the brand has succeeded at, and it’s perhaps most observable via Yuth’s website and Instagram that both feature some of Australia’s emerging faces, aesthetics and stories.
