Twitter users are losing it over a viral video of a Florida man defending his home from an alligator, daringly capturing the reptile inside a trash can.
UPDATED 10/4, 1:05 p.m. ET: The Florida man who caught an alligator with a trash can took a shot at Ben Simmons during an interview with Philadelphia’s Eyewitness News.
“I’m not going to be Ben Simmons,” Eugene Bozzi said when asked what was going through his mind at the time. “I’m gonna get me this basket.”

A Florida man is going viral after defending his home from an alligator.
TMZ reports Abdul Gene Malik, an Army veteran, was taking out the trash this week when he was confronted by a snarling gator.
In a video that has since gone viral, Malik can be seen approaching the reptile head-on with a trash can. As he inches closer to the predator, Malik swings the lid down, which falls and hits the unexpecting (and unexpected) alligator in the head. It charges Malik, thrashing its way straight into the trash can.
“Let me know when the head goes inside [the bin]!” Malik says to onlookers. “Let me know! Somebody let me know when the head goes inside of the thing!”
When someone yells, “The head is in!” Malik drops the lid onto the gator’s head and turns the bin upright, completing his successful scheme to capture the animal.
Speaking with TMZ about the incident, Malik said, “I got kids to protect.”
