A busy spring break weekend in Daytona Beach turned chaotic after authorities confirmed four separate shootings and numerous arrests across the city, prompting large police responses and viral videos showing crowds scattering along the shoreline.
According to the Daytona Beach Police Department, the incidents occurred between March 13 and March 14 at several locations near the city’s main entertainment district. Per WFTV, three people were wounded across the four shootings, though officials said all victims are expected to recover.
Law enforcement agencies from across Volusia County were deployed to manage large crowds that had gathered as thousands of spring breakers arrived in the popular Florida destination.
Videos circulating online captured people running across the sand as police vehicles moved along the beach, emergency lights flashing. Authorities clarified that none of the confirmed shootings actually took place on the beach itself.
The Volusia County Sheriff's Office said the footage primarily reflected large, chaotic crowds reacting to nearby disturbances rather than gunfire on the shoreline.
Investigators outlined a series of incidents beginning early Saturday morning. Just after 12:30 a.m., a confrontation inside the Joint Bar on Seabreeze Boulevard escalated when a man reportedly fired a gun, sparking panic as people rushed out of the building.
No one was struck by gunfire, though some patrons suffered minor injuries during the rush to exit. Roughly an hour later, a person was shot outside a nearby Crunch Fitness location.
Later that day, two additional shootings occurred beachside, including one following an argument near Kingston Avenue and Flinders Avenue and another during a large fight outside the Cruisin Café on South Atlantic Avenue.
Police said they are still working to identify suspects involved in the incidents and are asking the public for information as the investigations continue.
Detectives also noted that it remains unclear whether the shootings were directly connected to spring break activities or separate disputes involving visitors.
